Tuscany, a region located in central Italy, is full of history and culture. The capital, Florence, is considered the ‘art palace of Italy’ and boasts more Renaissance-era art and architecture than any other city in the world. Tuscany is also famous for its diverse landscape, ranging from the Apennine Mountains to beaches overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. It’s also home to many olive gardens and vineyards.

A region as diverse as Tuscany comes with a long list of things to do. Below are five memorable experiences you can only have in Tuscany.

1. Museum-Hop In Florence

Florence is home to many museums, including the world-renowned Galleria degli Uffizi, home to many famous Renaissance pieces. There’s also Bargello Museum, a former prison turned sculpture gallery, Accademia Gallery, home to Michelangelo’s famous David sculpture, and Museo di San Marco, home to the original work of Renaissance painter and monk, Fra Angelico.

Those interested in architecture can view blueprints and other art related to Florence’s Duomo Complex at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. Fans of Michelangelo can visit Casa Buonarroti, the house he once owned that now features many of his early works on display.

4. Take A Cooking Class

Food plays an important role in all Italian culture but especially in Tuscany. Spend an evening getting in touch with your inner-chef by learning how to prepare some traditional Tuscan cuisine. Many classes focus on perfecting one dish, such as pasta or tiramisu, while others allow the opportunity to prepare an entire 4-course meal. Learning how to make a dish abroad not only provides an extra level of cultural immerse but also allows you to bring a piece of your trip home, where you can prepare the dish any time.

5. Relax In A Tuscan Hot Spring

Tuscany is home to several hot springs, spread across the region. While many of these are now on the property of resorts, there are still several that can be visited on your own. These include the well-known Saturnia, which is the biggest but also most popular so often crowded on weekends, and Petriolo, located just south of Siena and next to the Farma river. There are also many smaller hot springs that can be found by asking the locals and most resorts in the area also have one on site.
