On July 20 from 4pm to 9pm Angel City Brewery will kick off its “Over a Barrel” exhibit, curated by J.W. Pippen, and includes six local Downtown artists with a special open house and auction to benefit Free Arts, a program that uses art therapy to help abused children. Street tacos and live music add to the festivities, and a percentage of the Brewery’s beer sales for the day add to Free Arts’ coffers.

For the July 20 open house, each artist has been given Angel City oak barrel tops as a canvas to create special pieces to be auctioned off to benefit the organization. Artists featured are Andre Miripolsky, Scott Forrest, Jaime Colindres, A.S. Ashley, Emmeric Konrad, and J.W. Pippen. During the event, Taqueria el Severo will cook up street tacos and live music comes from Fiz. In addition to the barrel top works, these artists will exhibit a collection of their art on the Brewery’s gallery walls through August 4.

Free Arts’ programs inspire hope in the lives of children who have experienced abuse, neglect, homelessness, and chronic poverty through innovative creative arts programs and positive interactions with caring adult volunteers. Free Arts has brought the healing power of art to more than half a million of Los Angeles’ children since its inception in Malibu in 1977. With more than 35,000 children receiving child welfare services at any given time in LA County alone, Free Arts strives to reach more children every year, eager to spark their creative spirit, inspiring and transforming their lives through the power of artistic expression.

Angel City Brewery just celebrated its official opening on May 4 and is now fully open to the public after more than a year of building and brewing.
